Philosophy and Programs
Our educational ministries are designed to provide opportunities for God’s children of all ages to ask and explore questions of faith in a nurturing, accepting, and supportive environment. Our Nursery / Preschool room is located downstairs next to the Sunday School classroom. Currently, due to the pandemic safety guidelines, our Christian Education programs are continuing online (or in warm weather on the lawn of the church) until we can meet again in person in our church building. All of our Sunday School teachers, youth advisers, and volunteers are CORI-checked.
Youth Ministry:
We have a vital youth ministry here at Second Congregational Church. During the pandemic, and following safety guidelines, our youth have participated in community service events, like Bread of Life (a hunger alleviation ministry) or trash removal from public roads and fun events like monthly hikes and Soul Fest.
Children’s Education:
For children age three (pre-kindergarten) through grade 8, we offer regular Sunday School classes using an ecumenical curriculum sponsored by a number of denominations in America, Canada, and Australia. It encompasses worship, education, and mission. While our building is closed due to pandemic restrictions and safety concerns, our children still meet weekly online or outdoors for Sunday School, starting at 9:15 a.m.
During the Sunday morning In-Person worship service, we provide loving nursery care for our infants and toddlers through age three to four. This often include a short story time and snack for older toddlers and serves to introduce our littlest ones to the basic stories of our faith. Our Nursery program is available year-round.
When we hold church services in our sanctuary, Sunday School begins after the children and youth participate in the first part of the 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service and runs until the end of the worship service.
