Bee Fest is Buzzing!
Bee cross walk for Bee-Fest near Second Congregational Church
Greenfield Bee Fest will go virtual starting May 22, 2021!
This our 11th year of Bee Fest will feature the installation of 6 new bee themed art sculptures! One will grace the yard of Second Church, joining others throughout downtown Greenfield. Interested visitors will be invited to take a walking tour at their leisure to view these long-anticipated fiberglass creations by local artists. A “Bee Promenade” app for cell phones will showcase 13 adjacent sites. Listening on their phones, visitors will be able explore and learn local history and pollinator facts. The city will look festive with bright bee cutouts adorning our light posts. (Look for a new Bee Fest website by mid-April with more info and educational links at www.greenfieldbeefest.org )
Why a Bee Festival? The former pastor of this church, Lorenzo Langstroth, developed the moveable frame beehive and wrote The Hive And The Honey Bee – the most important overview of bee-keeping that is still in print today. Rev. Langstroth is known around the world as ‘The Father of American Bee Keeping’, so we like to keep that heritage alive.
This annual event had to be cancelled in 2020 due to pandemic safety guidelines.
We hope to see an In-Person Bee-Fest again in 2022.
